A Pretty Series, With an Ugly Title

What could be wrong with everyone being super-model gorgeous?
                Everything.
Last Friday, I started a fantastic book called Uglies, by Scott Westerfeld. It’s in the point of view of a tricky “ugly” named Tally.
What is an ugly? In Scott’s world, the stages of growing are... unique.
·         First, you’re a littlie
·         Then, you’re an ugly
·         A pretty
·         A middle pretty
·         A little pretty
·         And a dead pretty
Tally, is (obviously) an ugly in this book. She misses her best friend, Peris, and sneaks into the place where pretties live, it’s called New Pretty Town. Uglies aren’t supposed to go there, though, but pretties CAN go into Uglyville, even though they never do.
That’s when Tally Youngblood meets Shay, another Ugly, but Shay doesn’t want to become pretty like Shay does. She would much rather STAY ugly.
Shay takes Tally on an amazing - and strange - adventure to new places, and new, pretty thoughts.
*brain food*
What gets wetter and wetter the more it dries?

I love this series! I read the whole series at least three times. I rave about it to everyone that is interested in a new series.

Great choice to read! Hope you enjoy the rest of the series!

We have to fix your time zone setting. You scheduled this for 6, but it went up at 9, apparently. You must be set to west coast.

Anyway, love you, sweety!

I teach seventh grade. Many of my seventh graders love this book. You have an excellent start to this post Mady! Looks like your dad isn't the only writer in the family. ;)

These riddles are baffling me. But in a good way!

I'm very ... proud of your use of the ellipsis, honey.

My oldest has read those. He liked them. I probably won't get to them, though. Too many other things stacked up, right now.

I have not read this series yet but it is on my list. I'm glad you enjoyed the first book, and the best part is that it's a series, meaning there are more books to read! :)

Madi - I enjoyed each of your posts/reviews. I'm going to recommend the Keeper of the Lost Cities to my son and The Uglies. I also really liked the riddles. I'm a sucker for a good riddle, even if I usually don't figure them out. Best - Joe

This was a great series! It was very popular among my fifth grade students until The Hunger Games came along. I still recommend it, sometimes the length puts kids off. (Wimps.)

Have you tried the Everlost series by Neal Schusterman? Another favorite! I read the first book aloud to my class every year, and there's nearly a riot over the second book in my classroom library! LOL!

I loved that entire series. Plus there were a lot of surprises, which I also enjoyed. Tally was an interesting character.
